Texas Computer Science is hosting the 11th annual Technical User Community Linked Data Benchmark Council meeting on Friday, June 8th in the Gates-Dell Complex.

The Association for Computer Machinery’s annual SIGMOD/PODS conference is a major gathering of database researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to discuss and learn about cutting-edge tools and techniques. Big data management, which deals with large databases, often requires finding relationships between different data items. The relationships between items can represent a graph, making graph data analysis important for extracting information from the data. The mission of the Linked Data Benchmark Council (LDBC) is to provide benchmarks, or ways to compare a technique’s effectiveness to the industry’s best practices, for graph database management, as well as help users who manage data better understand their graph data problems and explain the pros and cons of the various options available for managing databases.

The Technical User Community (TUC) meeting is a one-day event held before the 2018 SIGMOD/PODS conference, which this year starts on June 10 in Houston. For the past several years, a group of around 30 researchers have gathered at the TUC meeting to less formally discuss graph data management before the main conference.

With talks from LDBC members and other participants, the TUC meeting gives the database research community an opportunity to learn about how the LDBC task forces are working on benchmarks to evaluate graph data management, give feedback on this work, and hear about user experiences with graph data management technologies. Registration is free but required, and the meeting will take place in the GDC from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
