Information for New Graduate Students Fall 2016
Welcome to the Computer Science Department at The University of Texas at Austin! You were admitted to our program because we believe you will be a future star in the field of computer science, and we are very honored to have you join our department!
Below are very important dates and useful information. Links are embedded in the checklists you can download at the bottom of this page to provide you with additional information and answer your questions. We encourage you to use these links. If you do not find the information you need, please contact the CS Graduate Office.
|June 3||All new international students can schedule their Immigration and Briefing check-in (IBC) with the International Office. New international students MUST check-in with the international office prior to registration on August 19.|
|July 15||All students - Please submit your Background Coursework Form (link below) to the CS Graduate Office for review by this date.|
|August 12||International Office New Student Orientation, Lunch, and Information Fair, Texas Union Ballroom, 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Attendance is recommended.) View other events and new student information here: http://world.utexas.edu/isss/students/new/orientation/ut101 .|
|August 18 and 23||New CS graduate student information sessions in GDC 6.302, August 18 and 23 from 1:30 - 2:30. Be sure to attend one of these sessions to have questions answered and pick up or submit paperwork. While I'll be happy to follow up with you after you have attend an information session, it isn't possible to provide individual information sessions. No prior sign up is necessary. Just come to whichever session works for your schedule.|
Two things. 1) Registration for New Graduate Students. Tuition and Fees MUST be paid by 5 p.m. August 29. See your Registration Information Sheet: http://registrar.utexas.edu/students/registration/before/ris/ for registration times. 2) College of Natural Sciences Orientation 2:00 - 3:30, WCH 1.120
The CS department orientation, GDC 2.216 (Auditorium) 10:00 - 11:30, lunch 11:30 - 1:00, and games in Union.
|August 23||Office of Graduate Studies - New Graduate Student Orientation - RSVP here|
|August 24||Classes begin.|
|August 29||Pay your tuition and fees by 5 p.m. This is the 4th class day. After this date you cannot make your own changes to your registration.|
|September 30 - September 9||Changes to your registration must be made in the department offering the course. If it's a CS course please see Katie Dahm in GDC 2.728.|
PhD: Incoming PhD students need to send their proposed course schedule to the CS Graduate Office via email by August 12 for approval by the Graduate Adviser. The advising bar will not be removed until the Graduate Adviser notifies the CS Graduate Office of his approval. All PhD students must register for CS 398T their first fall semester. CS 398T does not count towards your degree hours but does count towards your required 9 hours of registration.
Masters: There is no formal advising for masters students. The advising bar will be cleared prior to registration. Please direct any questions to the CS Graduate Office.
