11/16/2017 - A team of game developers from Austin won first place in the Anti-Defamation League’s Center for Technology and Society’s first ever game jam, a competitive hackathon in which participants create video games. The theme of the game jam, “Being an Ally,” focused on developing video games that explore speaking out against hate and bias in society. 08/17/2015 - KXAN  AUSTIN (KXAN) – A computer science professor at the University of Texas at Austin stopped by KXAN to talk about his research on computer gaming and the human brain. Dr. Risto Miikkulainen is studying the brain to figure out how it works and translate that knowledge to making better computer games. He even entertained questions around the blockbuster movie, “Pixels,” exploring the idea of using gaming technology as a weapon. Read more

01/28/2013 - Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam, a competition similar to a hackathon in which people come together to make video games based on a common theme. What started out as a relatively small competition has grown dramatically, with the number of games produced going from only 370 in 2009 to over 2,100 in the 2012 competition. Read more
