Bagels as they eagerly await the announcement of the secret theme at the third game jam hosted by Jolly, a local development studio. A game jam is an event during which participants must create a video game that satisfies a particular theme within a time limit. Student teams designed multiplayer video games over the course of the weekend to present at a showcase. Read more
09/29/2014 - UT Computer Science professor Lorenzo Alvisi has been selected for the 2014 Google Research Award. Lorenzo, along with two other UT professors, will receive grants to expand their research. Read more
09/29/2014 - UT Computer Science sophomore Rohit Pattanaik stood in line Thursday September 18 with his resume in hand.  After spending two years immersed into computer science coursework he was ready to find an internship that would put these skills into action.  “It’s definitely a different experience since this is my first career fair,” Pattanaik said. “I’m nervous but I know it’s necessary to do this to get experience to break into the industry.” Read more
08/19/2014 - With a $50 million gift from the LIVESTRONG Foundation to the Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin has exceeded its goal of raising $3 billion during the eight-year Campaign for Texas. This is the most ever raised by a higher education institution in Texas and among the largest amounts raised by a U.S. public university in a single campaign. Read more

06/24/2014 - On several occasions now, I’ve written about the growing phenomenon of exploding interest in computer science. I’d like to update you on these trends. As a reminder, during the years after the dot com bust, enrollments in computer science fell as low as about 700 undergraduates here at UT. We started this year with 2,100 students. Early estimates next year are starting to crystallize now, and we expect to pass the 2,300 marker, which brings us fully back to dot-com levels with no sign of a slow down in sight. Read more
