U T C S professor Angela Beasley

Each year, the College of Natural Sciences Teaching Excellence Award recognizes educators who provide outstanding education focused on research that enriches the experience of students. This year, UT Computer Science Assistant Professor of Instruction Angela Beasley was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award as a recognition of her achievements as an educator.

Beasley has enriched her classes with opportunities for students to gain real-world experiences, such as when her Introduction to Data Mining class participated in the 2019 SparkCognition data-mining and analytics competition. Providing her students with an experience that allows them to dive into solving tangible issues is just one of the factors that makes her a recipient of this award.

Beasley received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin and went on to George Washington University to earn her Master of Science in Computer Science with a concentration in Machine Learning. She joined the UTCS faculty in 2017 and has taught Introduction to Data Mining, Elements of Data Analytics and Elements of Computers in Programming. This fall, she is teaching Principles of Machine Learning, a class that examines machine learning algorithms to find patterns in large data sets.
