TXCS associate professor of instruction Alison Norman has been selected to receive the 2019 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. Given by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, this honor is one of the nation’s largest monetary teaching recognitions in higher education.

Norman will receive an unrestricted check for $25,000 and will be presented with a certificate and medallion during the Board of Regents meeting on Aug. 14 at the UT System administration building in Austin.

Award nominees undergo a series of rigorous evaluations by students, peer faculty and external reviewers. The review panels consider a range of activities and criteria in their evaluations of a candidate's teaching performance, including classroom expertise, curricula quality, innovative course development and student learning outcomes.

"These educators are dedicated to continually looking for new and better ways to inspire students to learn and succeed," Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife said. "And they're ensuring the next generation, whether they be teachers, scientists or health care providers, is armed with passion and knowledge. Their contributions are immeasurable."

A TXCS graduate and doctorate holder, Norman has lectured at the University since 2011. Amongst her other accolades are the President’s Associates Teaching Excellence Award and the College of Natural Sciences Teaching Excellence Award.
