Underdog Games, a team of students from UT Austin's Game and Mobile Media Applications (GAMMA) Program, was hand selected by a panel of game industry veterans and media professionals as one of five finalists in the second annual 2014 Electronic Entertainment Exp (E3) College Game Competition. The team was elected to exhibit and share their game called Port of Call with 45,000 attendees from around the world at E3 2014 computer and video games trade show.

Computer Science students Darwin Pek (Junior), Ricky Llamas (Senior, also Journalism) and Wilson Villegas (Senior, also RTF), as well as Studio Art student Lynn Vuong (Senior) and Radio-Television-Film (RTF) students Mario Rodriguez (Senior) and Mark Rubin (Senior) make up Underdog Games.

"We are thrilled about the opportunity. Usually game developers are invited to E3 once they've reached their professional goals but we've been presented with the chance to attend E3 and exhibit our game on the show floor: it's a dream come true," says Villegas.

Port of Call is a first person, story exploration video game with a shadowy appearance and a realistic, desaturated environment. In the game—an adventure story about acceptance and self-discovery—players explore a unique ship and learn about its passengers and captain. Underdog Games drew inspriration for Port of Call from games like Gone HomeLimboOkamiThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Hayao Miyazaki's animated film Spirited Away.
