AUSTIN, Texas - February 15, 2007

Frederick R. Chang, Research Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, has been appointed to the National Academies Computer Science and Telecommunications Board (CSTB). The Computer Science and Telecommunications Board monitors and promotes the health of the computer science, computing technology and telecommunications fields as critical resources and sources of national economic strength.

The Computer Science and Telecommunications Board is comprised of nationally recognized experts from information technology and complementary fields germane to the Board's interests in IT and society. Board members are appointed by the National Academies following a rigorous vetting process and serve staggered terms of three to five years during which they contribute ideas for and oversee Computer Science and Telecommunications Board programs. These leaders are selected on the basis of their individual accomplishments and are associated with a wide range of academic, industrial and other affiliations.
