The paper "Generating Product-Lines of Product-Families" by Don Batory, Roberto Lopez-Herrejon, and Jean-Phillipe Martin won a best paper award at ASE 2002.

Professor Batory, David Bruton, Jr., Centennial Professor in Computer Sciences, earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering and M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Case Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto.
His research interests are extensible (Java) programming languages, software architectures, generative programming, software reuse, object-oriented databases, and domain modeling.

Roberto Lopez-Herrejon earned his B.Eng. Computer Systems at ITESM, his M.S. Computer Science at UNAM, a MSc. Computer Science, Minor Science Education at The University of Texas at Austin. He is currently a Ph.D. student in our department. Don Batory is his Ph.D. advisor.

Jean-Philippe Martin earned his bachelors degree at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland. "I'm interested in distributed systems, more specifically building things that work. That's not as easy as it sounds, espcially when you want to make things that work despite the work of hackers out there. That's what we call Byzantine fault tolerance.
